Political/military risk - that's one of the major reasons why my biggest long-term position is su - virtually unlimited reserves in the most stable country on the planet, well managed with declining costs etc. The sort of paper you pass on to the grandkids imho.

... that guy's Chart #1 trend line is quite bogus - it is absurd to begin any meaningful trend until 1910, 1920 or so when the motorcar and a serious oil business became significant. Bagehot is likely rolling over in his grave bemoaning the poor quality of help nowadays.

ps - this is one of the best threads on SI, imho, even for those of us who don't play US oil service stocks, it's the de facto Oil Price Monitor thread, and a good one ... thanks to all contributors
