fully understand and agree with your comment on wto and tariffs...my reference was to local manufacture of a product which always gives advantage in a "nationalized" sense...with or without protectionist tariffs...tariffs are just one component of a "landed cost"....the ability to be an in country "franchise" name is an extremely effective way to penetrate developing markets...including and down to third world entities...india and china are far from the typical developing countries....massive populations who are biased toward technology....not looking at plant investment for export purposes ala s'pore, malaysia....but for internal consumption....cheers, ed a.
