Dontcha think, however, once it becomes clear that PIII sales are going well....that Compaq will rally going into earnings...given the lowered expectations for earnings..

I do. I think it'll be back in the high 30's come that time...And, Mason & Co. got to deliver at least 2-3 cents above estimates to keep things going...I think they will...

Thought I'd share this --- I will keep the specifics (names) in confidence

***************

I SENT THE FOLLOWING E-MAIL TO A CNBC PROGRAM:

"Over the past 10 days CNBC and analysts have been saying that CPQ
pre-warned of an earnings shortfall for this quarter.

THIS SEEMS TO BE UNTRUE !! .......Yet, the stock has taken an undeserved beating.

After checking with CPQ IR ... it seems that NO warning has/had been issued and that ALL reports of such were incorrectly based upon a
inadvertent/meaningless comment made to an investor during a CPQ
headquarters tour.

As well, because of last year's channel stuffing fiasco ... analysts and the market are (1) ultra-sensitive and violently negatively reactive to anything potentially non-positive about CPQ and (2) still untrusting of CPQ Mgmnt.

A clarification of this CPQ shortfall RUMOR would be most helpful for your viewers and potentially a coupe for the thoroughness of CNBC."

***************

THIS IS THE INITIALED RESPONSE I RECIEVED:

"Michael:

You said it yourself. CPQ management is not considered especially
forthright. Now, they say the remark was "inadvertent" and "meaningless?"

Fine. Believe that if you want to.

signed with initials "

***************

Thread: This just confirms our suspicions of why CPQ is acting so badly ... it's going to take time and/or something BIG to change opinions.

Michael

El was right; I still have no response from Compaq on K's earnings estimate question. Seems like the analysts and Compaq management are in their little war at our expense. Compaq can say wait until earnings time, but unless they blow out the estimates they will loose. The analysts will just discredit the company again. The stock goes down on bad news and nowhere on good news. The DOW is setting records and Compaq is 33% off its 52 week high. Somebody needs to give in and I do not see either side doing it. It may be a good buy at this price but...
