Re:"all in all, i think this is pretty well priced into the stock."

I think that the yield, layoff, and loss info released today are fresh, but important confirmations that all is not well. I have indicated before that I believed for AMD to succeed EVERYTHING had to go near perfectly. But their track record (and I include the board of directors) is wildly short of setting the stage for perfect execution. This is an "uh-oh" company (happens almost like clockwork). My personal guess is that they pushed the operating frequency (MHz) specs a notch or two too far (most likely they felt that they had to - no matter what their process people told them) and the chickens are REALLY coming home to roost. The only good news is that the stock price is already low so it probably won't go too far down. But it will go down. There will probably be takeover speculation. This should be one volatile player for the next few weeks.

Trey,

Re: "maybe i am just an idiot, but this seems like a rehash of old news.
we all knew the yeilds at the beginning of the q were bad... "

Trey, Don't be so "hard" on yourself ... Remember, AMD said that the
"manufacturing problem" had been fixed (in Feb) with a "late mask fix".
I think most people/investors expected AMD to at least ship as many processors
as last quarter, don't you think ?? With falling AMD ASP's, the loss
will be "significant". People on this thread could be calling you "deuce"
tomorrow. <ggg>

Make It So,
Yousef

Looks like old news to me, but AMD will get more coverage (and sympathy which they need), since the case against Intel was dropped. Perhaps with some sympathy they may get some orders (oops, that's not the problem. Perhaps IBM will help produce the chips so Dell will be able to sell them.
