I think conservatives are more open to a "liberal" immigration policy than the Malthusian Gore-ite left. We have more faith in what free people can accomplish than they do. To them, more immigrants mean the static pie has to be cut smaller and redistributed to more mouths.

This has been the problem, just because a person is against ILLEGAL people entering the country, you are tagged as a racist! NO, I am against people breaking the law as they step into the country. It is a sovereignty thing! We have rules, follow them or don't come. If I were in their shoes, would I try to get in illegal? I expect so! That does not make it right. A country sets up quotas for an orderly immigration, that is what should be respected. Now if people have a problem with the quotas, that is another question.
