No, I believe what he said was that last year revenue was flat.

You ought to go to some of the retail outlets, DA. Plenty of product which isn't exactly flying off the shelves.

Also take a look at the recent announcements by CPU, IM, ICO, TECD, CPQ and a few others -- start putting the picture together yourself. Any one can figure it out. Just have to look at it objectively and quit letting IDC and/or dataquest interpret the results for you.

Seriously,
Tipppet

D.A.

To add still another interpretation<g>, I thought he said revenue growth rate was negative.

DA:
I don't often get someone to give me a lead-in like your comments about Q1, but you might wish to check out a just-released statement by cheerleader IDC, which calls for a 14% increase in unit sales for global PCs in 1999. Of course they mention a small fly in that sticky ointment, that being their expectation that Q1 unit sales will be down 14.7%.

Now let me see,....Q1 will be down by 14.7%, so going into Q2, we have quite a deficit to make up, just to get back to last year's rate of sales for Q2. Is this possible in a single quarter, even if the global deflationary wave disappeared? NOT!

I started trying to calculate just how much things would have to turn around in Q2,Q3, and Q4 to make this slimey piece of dung come true, but it became so outrageous as to boggle the mind. I will just say thanks to these twits for pointing out how bad Q1 is and note that I have a magnificent bridge for sale that might be of interest to those who place any value in such outrageous clap trap. (g)

I'm adding this IDC piece of fluff to my famous file of IDC overly optimistic mis-statements. I can't recall a single time when they came close, and they sure didn't this time either.

Too bad they can't be even marginally truthful. This thing is so distorted that IDC's credibility, as minimal as it was, should now be non-existent.

Best, Earlie

DA, Where could you possibly get the bizarre idea that Q1 looks positive with nearly every co. in the business warning about a very weak quarter? You do read the news, don't you? <g>
