I think perhaps the point is, who in their right mind would want to short a 5 cent stock (or any very cheap stock)?. Your maximum reward per share (assuming the company goes completely bust) is 5 cents/share as opposed to your theoretical risk which is infinite. Unless you have inside information you always take the chance that some idiot at the company may invent the perfect mouse trap, the cure for ebola or a high performance piston engine that gets 80 miles to the gallon.
