Bob, it sounds like what Sun's trying to develop is simply a standardized piece of Java code for dealing with XML data. No mention of storing the Java data, which is what ODIS does best. So the bottom line is, it doesn't sound like a competitive threat.

Hopefully, it's not an exclusive deal... It would make much more sense for SUNW to cut such a deal with ODIS than with SYBS, after all: Embedded ObjectStore has the smallest "footprint", and ODIS's committment to Java (100% pure Java odbms) and XML is unmatched by the competition.
