I agree with your general point, that opinion, however outrageous, is and should be protected by the First Amendment. My hope is that the readers recognize it as such and evaluate it (if they can) or discount it accordingly. In fact, I think that readers should assume that most of the content on these boards is either purely opinion and/or skewed by some personal agenda (whether the posts are positive or negative). That's not to say that the opinions expressed are not helpful and/or entertaining and I do think that the information which is stated as fact and the references to other sources of information (articles, etc.) are a helpful function of these boards. I just think opinion should be stated as such or should be easily understood to be an opinion, rather than fact.

Ironically, I think a good example of a post which some might think comes close to the libel/defamation line is your post #7533 which (in admirable "ad hominum" style) refers to the Continuum acquisition as a "junk company with a junk product" and its president as a "low-tech buffoon who will damage the company if he is given too much influence." Your prior posts, which reflect an apparent knowledge of the subject area and perhaps of Continuum and its president, would suggest that it was intended as a factual statement, although I assume it (along with most personal attacks) would be considered matters of "protected" opinion. If there is something specific and factual that you know about Continuum and its president that we investors should worry about, let's hear it!
