People should stick to the facts and not digress from what is important. Is 3com a good investment or not?

First, this is not 1997. Back then, 1)3Com had an old product line. 2) They where trying to integrate u.s. robotics (good acquisition, but paid too much). 3) They did not have Bruce Claflin. 4) Lacked a clear focus of what they wanted the company to become. 5) Didn't have a clear focus on inventory management.

Today, 3Com has one of its best product cycles in a long time. No integration issues. They have a great manger in Bruce Claflin (also, well respected). Despite the last quarter, they have a great focus on where they want to be (palm, wireless, SAN, calbe modems, ect.). They have a clearly defined focus on inventory management.

They clearly were hampered by serious pricing pressures in this quarter. Pricing was an issue in every one of their respective markets. I'm not justifying the way they manage the street (they can do a lot better job). But, I also believe that the 4th quarter will be better.

Keeping our emotions out of it, we have all been hurt by this stock at one time or another, is this a good buy now? That is the question. For people looking for quick money stick to the internet stocks. The people I want a response from are serious investors, not gamblers playing the irrationality of this market place.

Please respond?

<<Masri acknowledged that "customers should be concerned" that 3Com
could be acquired as a result of its sagging stock price
and a general market slowdown>>

An interesting choice of words: "Potential customers, please think twice before buying our products because 3Com may be acquired soon."

<<<I'm not saying that we'd like to be acquired. All I'm
saying is that given the slowdown in the market . . .
there is a risk that some companies will start looking
at us and see that 3Com is undervalued," Masri says.>>>

Another interesting choice of words: "Hello financial community, 3Com is undervalued, pleeease buy our stock."

Edgar's responses seem quite odd to me but it has been a long day and I have probably had too much coffee.

Sometimes being (3COM) No.2 data network supplier not in bad in this competitive world. In my opinion, Cisco has very good PR and 3COM does not. The market has axed COMS too much in a short period of time. COMS is severely oversolded and undervalued. Again, my opinion, this past quarter is an anomaly and should be negated from their future potential.

With the strong name brand, and an edge with the at home networking, I believe 3COM is ahead of CISCO. 3COM is creating a new market in this information industry. As you know, the information age is a new industry, and the internet is growing rapidly. The network infrastructure is part of this information highway. As a result, 3COM earning will increase in the future. Their PE is low compared to CISCO and should be considered as long term investment.

As I mentioned in other articles, analyst were recommending the stock in the $40-$50 range and now the stock is trading at $25. At this time, they have taken a slight negative position. In short, they should have taken a negative position when the stock was higher. And, they should be taking a stronger position at these levels. (These guys are human, make several mistakes and flow with their fellow analyst).

For Cheng: Thanks for the COMS information.
