A truly great post, Neocon.

Thank you very much.

And God bless you, too.

Neocon,

Thanks for posting Reagan's First Inaugural Address. IMO, it is distilled into one word. Leadership. Contrast it to Clinton's laundry list of government "fixes" for everything from adult day care to traffic reports. Thinking about the death of Joe DiMaggio... Maybe we could reprise the Paul Simon song and say "where have you gone Ronald Reagan, our nation turns its lonely eyes to you."....I wonder if we'll ever have another leader of his stature again.

From Reagan's inaugural:

But great as our tax burden is, it has not kept pace with public spending. For decades, we
have piled deficit upon deficit, mortgaging our future and our children's future for the
temporary convenience of the present. To continue this long trend is to guarantee
tremendous social, cultural, political, and economic upheavals.

You and I, as individuals, can, by borrowing, live beyond our means, but for only a limited
period of time. Why, then, should we think that collectively, as a nation, we are not bound
by that same limitation?

Had only Reagan shown some balls and shut down the government for more than one day. I'm no fan of Clinton's but it just goes to show you what a great politician he is.
