Who was it then if not Credit Suisse First Boston? My memory of this thing is becoming overloaded. But I thought it was a group of their investors who visited Houston. The analyst was with them. He filed the story and the new estimate. All the other analysts accepted it as gospel source material - except Niles and one other.

EL...Joe Beyers from HWP is doing exactly what CPQ management should be doing in his interview on CNBC. Clearly defining their internet strategy and the overall HWP strategy with respect to the split up. Too bad "in the box Schrock" can't articulate a clear vision for CPQ.

When should Compaq warn? Your ideas would be most welcome. IMHO being off less than 10% would not be grounds for a warning.

El- I dont think there is anyway Compaq will miss the analyst estimates...The question is: To what extent will Compaq (if at all) have to stuff and/or use creative technics (receivables factoring) to make the number this quarter..

(Again, I am not implying that this will be done...just saying it will used if needed)...

The only way I could envison Compaq pre-warning is if business is absolutely atrocious...Again, if this were the case, Niles and Kumar would be all over it...

Pre-warning (this quarter) would be an absolute disaster (after the past 1 1/2, and the recent stock plunge)...and Pfeiffer and Mason know it...I gotta believe it is the last possible option (of many)...

Still some Intel overhang today...I think we'll see techs higher tomorrow and Friday...worse case, Friday (and then next week)..

Unless Intel does warn..(no way, IMO)
