To All, Ingram Micro preannounces again. go2net.newsalert.com

CNBS handled the story this morning with its usual denial mode of operation with anything relating to a pc slowdown. Faber reported it straight, except he called Ingram a large distributor. Uh, Brainiac, Ingram is THE largest distributor of PCs. He mentioned that Ingram said their problems had nothing to do with folks buying direct, but with price competition and Y2K bugaboos.

Then, the guest host, whose name I didn't know, played the old stupid is as stupid says game of saying, "I think Ingram is losing share to the direct sellers." Which must be why MUEI missed revenues last quarter and preannounced for this quarter, why Dell missed revenues and preannounced slower revenue growth and possible margin pressure, and why Gateway missed revenues and noted that Feb was "light." I have used this line before, but it bears repeating. He must be talking about the BIG direct sellers. <g>

As Sonny and Cher would say, "the beat goes on."
