Shane,

I read Michelle's post on the I2 thread yesterday and FWIW I have to disagree. I am an independent Oracle ERP consultant, so I guess I qualify as an "insider" too. About every 6 to 12 months I shop around to find my next assignment. For the past 3 months there has been a torrent of Y2K remediation jobs on the market and very few new implementations. My current client has devoted its entire IT staff (including myself) 100 percent to Y2K remediation for the period of January through April. In addition, upper management wants to implement a total freeze on all new software deployments that are not emergency bug fixes until February 2000! The IT manager is trying to loosen that up a bit because he understands how impractical it is, but he can sense the nervousness of his bosses.

My point is that senior management types are bordering on panic because of this issue and the software "freeze" is very real. My current client is typical of thousands of other organizations.

The silver lining for companies like PSFT is that their services revenues will grow very nicely, but at the expense of license revenues for the next nine months or so.
