Stitch;

We are a little confused and I, for one, would greatly appreciate some enlightenment. Thank you.

Stich,

Are you accusing the media of taking a quote out of context? I find that very hard to believe -- especially the 21 year old industry veterans/geniuses at Dow Jones.
<g>

I would be very interested to hear what you have heard about the ramp of the U-4 and how the quals went. It sounds like the ramp will be pretty steep ... they must have someone in mind?

GMR update would also be useful.

If you could send me over a free hat and/or a shirt ... that would be nice also.<g>

Stitch and La Traguhs, you seem to understand the quote by Watkins of SEG quite differently from each other.

Stitch says the mood on SEG is quite high.

La Traguhs says the hard drive companies earnings outlook for the next couple of quarters has been dropping recently.

Is this the normal vision of the disk drive industry?

Regards,

Larry

Gottfried,

<<Analysts predict 15% to 17% growth in the hard disk market in 1999>>

Too optimistic - I think 10% is almost a sure thing while 14% is really stretching it.
Already this quarter we'll see sequentially lower unit shipments. The next two quarters
are historically flat to down and all the hopes ride on the forth quarter.

<<"There is very little visibility on what is going on," Chief Operating Officer William
Watkins told Dow Jones on Tuesday>>

And that's no understatement either. I think it's Watkins kind way of saying not to
expect much for the next quarter.

Regards,
LT

Folks,

I have been attending the conference in S'Pore this week and have had several
meetings. I have to say that the feelings about SEG are quite bullish. The recent quote of
Watkins was poorly reported and taken out of context (though others would have you
see something sinister there).

I also expect to see some upgrades to SEG in the ensuing days. I will try to recap some
details when I return.

Best,
Stitch
