Duker;

<<I would be very interested to hear what you have heard about the ramp of the U-4 and how the quals went. It sounds like the ramp will be pretty steep ... they must have someone in mind? >>

I don't have specifics on the quals but the ramp is very very steep. I will mention that the general feeling among seasoned observers here is that Conner won't make it beyond a mezzanine round of financing. I think SEG's U-4 is a very interesting product as I think there statements about very small disk drives is as well.

This is clearly a transition year for DD makers. GMR, 7200rpm on the desktop, 10k rpm on the high end, TSA or TSA "like" flexures, nano to pico slider sizes, and a nascent "appliance" application arena, all weigh heavy on a heavily challenged industry.

I see substantial weakness in WDC and QNTM's dd biz. Nevertheless it is going to take a few days for me to digest all I have learned this week. In fact, am still in "listen" mode, collecting more.

In the meantime here is a link that we should "nolte bene".
