but seems to me you were talking about a Ricoh not too long ago, which I have also heard well-recommended from other sources.

I have a Ricoh..it is currently not on my recommended list..at least not until I know why I have so much trouble getting consistent results.

The disk beat goes on. TJT has 14.4 gig IBM 7200's now for 299 and 17.4 gig Maxtors (5400) for 255. Sure glad I got in early at 289

AND Maxtor 7200 RPM 20 gig and change drives starting to appear on the market.

Hi Spots,

Just thought I'd let you know my take on the Yamaha drive. Personally, I have the 4260 (4W 2RW 6R). It's on an Adaptec 2910 and runs very nicely. The only problem I've had is with the originating disks (from my Toshiba 32X IDE). Drive itself is quite sweet.

I have a couple of clients who have the 1644S. One on the 2902, the other on the 2940U2. They reported pretty much the same thing. Good speeds, a nice buffer and stable (key in my mind).

Whenever clients ask for CDR's, I almost always recommend the Yamaha SCSI's.

Just my 2 cents.

Richard

Spots - CDR -

Plextor, Yamaha, & Ricoh are often the most suggested and I've heard many good things about Teac on the newsgroups. I have a Ricoh currently, but would get a Plextor if I had to do it over. I haven't had any kind of drive problems, or any coasters that weren't my own or some software's fault. With any of the above, you can't go wrong.

What kind of Ricoh do you have and what sort of problems? I assume you've visited arrakis-ttm.com ?
