jim; As a DELLHEAD you are already aware that the rate of growth can slow (what was it, from 50% + to 38% in DELL's last quarter, at a time when CPQ's rate of growth was improving?). I would have thought the rates of industry growth you point to would gladden the heart of most manufactures. But you see the glass as half empty.

The survey you point to suggests that the rate of growth will be slower this year than last on a macro-industry basis. If this survey is not amended as we move forward - and it usually is - this will be a challenge for DELL and other manufacturers if they want to maintain hyper-growth. I have no doubt that both DELL and CPQ will, as usual, at least double the average rate of growth for the industry. In terms of its net sales per share, CPQ may not need to work quite so hard at it as DELL because CPQ has a more diversifed source of revenues than DELL.

At the moment CPQ's share price more than compensates for any slowdown in growth. DELL's on the other hand, still reflects optimism about hyper-growth.

Do you guys remember when CPQ preannounced last year on a Friday about 1 1/2 hour after the market closed ?

Wonder if they'll pull that kind of s#!@ again.
