Cisco Teams with V-ONE's SmartGate VPN as Extranet Solution in PIX Partner Demo CD Shipping with All PIX Firewalls
GERMANTOWN, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 11, 1999--
Cisco's PIX and V-ONE's SmartGate Two Best-of-Breed Solutions
That Work Together Seamlessly for
Complete Network and Extranet Security
V-ONE(R) Corp. (Nasdaq:VONE), the market leader in client/server extranet Virtual Private Network (VPN) technology, today announced that Cisco Systems Inc. (Nasdaq:CSCO), the worldwide leader in internetworking solutions for the Internet, will provide their PIX (tm) Firewall customers with the ability to create secure extranet business partnerships via V-ONE's SmartGate(R) VPN.
Starting within the next week, every PIX Firewall will ship with a PIX Partner Demo CD featuring SmartGate that allows PIX customers to quickly deploy a SmartGate-based extranet with their PIX Firewall.
Many of Cisco's enterprise customers implementing the PIX Firewall are looking for an easy, cost effective way to create business partnerships over the Internet so they can inexpensively, but privately, share confidential information.
The SmartGate VPN extranet solution is a perfect complement the PIX Firewall because it provides an instant, secure method of remotely configuring and managing the PIX and is interoperable with Cisco Secure(R) - the internetworking giant's user authentication software.
Above all, SmartGate's ease of client deployment permits Cisco customers to quickly roll out extranet business solutions to maximize time-to-market advantages.
The PIX Firewall, which already enjoys a reputation for out of the box deployment simplicity, can begin working with SmartGate with only one command needed to commence a seamless, secure connection. Cisco resellers and enterprise customers will quickly appreciate the ease with which they can use the two products to create trusted extranets.
In addition, SmartGate will allow PIX customers to extend their extranet applications to remote office and mobile users with confidence. With SmartGate sitting behind the PIX Firewall on the network, a customer will have one seamless network that provides both perimeter defense, remote administration capabilities and secure application access by remote users.
"We believe the ability to establish secure extranets, and remotely administer the PIX Firewall with SmartGate will prove to be extremely compelling," said David D. Dawson, CEO of V-ONE Corp. "We're confident that once PIX Firewall customers see firsthand SmartGate's ease of operation and deployment via our patented On-Line Registration process, they will choose SmartGate to secure their extranet applications."
While Cisco has their own hardware VPN product for intranet/remote access applications, SmartGate is complementary and particularly well suited for PIX customers looking for an easily-deployable approach to creating secure extranets.
Cisco's PIX Firewall customers want the ability to do secure remote administration and provide secure connectivity to business partners, customers and employees. SmartGate makes this possible by letting them incorporate extranet VPN functionality easily and quickly while offering another level of security that smoothly complements their PIX firewall.
V-ONE's patented On-Line Registration (OLR) system enables efficient rollout of the SmartGate client software to a large number of users, a feature particularly important to large enterprises. Users can download a SmartGate client from a secured website in minutes, eliminating the need for expensive and time-consuming conventional deployment methods while easing the burden on systems administrators.
SmartGate VPN runs on a variety of platforms, including Windows NT from Microsoft (Nasdaq:MSFT), HP-UX from Hewlett-Packard (NYSE:HWP), Solaris from Sun Microsystems (Nasdaq: SUNW) and BSD UNIX. SmartGate features an open architecture that perfectly complements any network firewall, including products from Check Point Software Technologies (Nasdaq:CHKPF), Axent Technologies (Nasdaq:AXNT), Network Associates (Nasdaq:NETA), IBM (NYSE:IBM) and Cisco.
