Just released at 1:15 p.m....Is VNTV about to be bought out by IBM ?

A story in todays "Silicon Tech." newsletter indicates that IBM is looking into getting a foot into the world of help desk software and is exploring its options including:

1. Setting up it own in-house team to start development from scratch
2. Buying an existing software house. VANTIVE is mentioned as the most possible candidate. REMEDY is another name also mentioned.
The cost to purchase Vantive is indicated at between $18 - $20/share or just over $600 million.

The article mentions that many of the large software houses including Computer Associates, SAP, Oracle and Peoplesoft may eventually do the same given that help desk software is a fast growing business and is expected to do well as the year 2000 approaches..."Companies will need to track problems related to Y2K and need effective tools to carry out the job".

If any one else has other articles related to the same, please post.
