I think you will see this pan out on the basis that NT adoption was very high in places that needs a webserver that was easier and cheaper to manage than a traditional UNIX box with Netscape server or Apache webserver. I'd add that cheaper was the key factor and ease of use was a side effect.

Now that LINUX comes along and is a VERY cheap version of UNIX that can run on any one of your INTEL based PCs, well, the ease of use factor isn't hard to handle. Let's face it, an NT box with a webserver can cost a company well over $800 for licensing just 5 users while LINUX is FREE (or you can fork over $39 to RedHat for support).

Now that you can get LINUX pre-installed and pre-configured from places like DELL, COMPAQ, IBM et al, the first hurdle is cleared. In fact, they will also offer you support packages custom-tailored for you (for a modest monthly/yearly fee).

Not many people adopted Novell as a webserver and LINUX has not proven itself in the file & print share areas to make it an easy change. Besides, with NDS, Novell has much more to offer...

PS-there's a version of LINUX called BEOWULF that comes from NASA (you can get it for like $59 I think) but in short, this version allows you to use multiple machines clustered together to perform supercomputer-like functions. Very interesting.
