Important notice for users of the #Daytraders channel on the Othernet network. Effective Monday 3/15/99 at 8:00 AM EST, #Daytraders will require authentication to join the channel. Authentication is a method of letting the channel services bot (previously called 'X' but now called 'DT') recognize you as a user of that channel. The changes are being made to facilitate management of the channel. The channel will remain free. It works as follows: Step 1: When you log in on Monday, you must add yourself to the #Daytraders user list. This is done by typing the following command in any window that you normally type in while on irc (i.e. status window): /msg dt addme password Replace the word 'password' with a unique password that you would like to use and please write it down in case you ever forget it. Remember, nicks are NOT case sensitive but passwords ARE case sensitive. Please note: You only need to do this the first time you log on to the new #Daytraders channel. Example: You are logged on to the Othernet with the nick George, and you want a password of 'spring', you would type: /msg dt addme spring George will be then be added to #Daytraders with the authentication password of 'spring'. Step 2: After you are added to the channel you must authenticate yourself with #Daytraders bot called 'DT' by typeing the following command: /msg dt auth idnick password Idnick is the nick you used when you performed the 'addme' command. Use the same password that you entered when you performed the 'addme' command. This Command must be used everytime you enter the network and before you join #daytraders. Example: You are user George and you performed the 'addme' command above using the password 'spring', you would type: /msg dt auth George spring After you have followed these two steps DT will automatically invite you to the channel. Now you can join #Daytraders as you normally would by typing: /join #daytraders However, I would like to remind you that if you DO NOT authenticate you will NOT gain access to the channel. Please note that when you auth, it doesn't matter what nick you are currently using, you still must specify the nick you used when you performed the 'addme' command. Example: You are added yourself using the nick George with the password of 'spring' but today you decided to log on to Othernet with the nick GeorgeB. To authenticate with DT, you would type: /msg dt auth George spring Even though your current nick is GeorgeB, you still specify the original nick that you used when you performed the 'addme' command. There is no need to add multiple nick entries, the idnick is nothing but an identifier, your current nick has no bearing on the authentication, all you do is use the original idnik you had when using the addme command. Also, if you use multiple ISPs, you may need to add another isp address host mask to your nick so that you can authenticate with both ISPs (Occasionally you need to do this even with the same isp if you frequently dial different numbers to log on to your ISP). When you first log on with your other ISP, type the following command: /msg dt addthismask idnick password Idnick is the nick you used when you performed the 'addme' command. Password is the password you used when you performed the 'addme' command. Example: /msg dt addthismask George spring In addition, if you are ever kicked from #daytraders, to rejoin, you must first deauth and then auth again. So you would perform the following commands in this order to rejoin #Daytraders: /msg dt deauth IDnick /msg dt auth IDnick password /join #Daytraders For support while on the Othernet, consult #dt_help where a fully versed staff is awaiting to answer your questions. Also, the new channel is available under the channel name #niteswap until Monday morning when it replaces the older #Daytraders. (#niteswap channel will be renamed #Daytraders). I encourage you and everyone else to add yourself and practice these commands before Monday morning rush hour. Please feel free to post this info to any thread that you deem appropriate. Spread the word. Thanks. cg
