Michelle,
I didn't say I wanted Ray Lane to run the company. I would just rather have him be the mouthpiece for the company than Larry Ellison. I have read many of your posts and respect what you have to say. I think you know more than I do about the capabilities of the various execs at Oracle. I agree that Larry is the man with the vision but I think that the company has had more integrity since Ray Lane has been there. Perhaps it is a coincidence. I know that when I listen to Ray Lane speak at the Openworld conferences, he seems sensible and straight forward while L.E. seems arrogant and wants to entertain the crowd by bashing MSFT. I also agree with you that Oracle's database product is the best and that Oracle missed the boat with their apps. Their apps still leave a lot to be desired. As far as people moving to 8i, I agree with one of your posts that there isn't much motivation to move off of 7 and on to 8. I have clients that refuse to move off of 7.3.4. Unless 8i is very stable and has a lot more to offer than 8.0, I don't seem why existing clients would want to use it. I hope there is some compelling reasons why people will want it. As far as when Oracle will bounce back, I wish it would be soon but it wasn't quick the last time this happened and I can't see it bouncing back until at Oracle posts some great numbers. With Y2k slowing down revenues, that could take until next year. I still believe in Larry's vision and I'm in for the long haul so I will just remain patient.
