My 2 cents....hi mo & bachman..

I really can't see Dell getting involved in a slug-'em out war of anykind with the cut-our-own-throat .com guys...Given what we know about their financial discipline (and success in recent years)...it seems much more likely that Dell will cherry-pick here...offering a broad range of products, but really expecting to sell a lot of certain items where they have a price/service advantage...and much less of items where they really don't have an advantage....Under no circumstances can I forsee Dell going into a negative or 0 net margin bizs/items.... Rather the focus being on building a highly-profitable (for retail/internet), and possibly smaller (much smaller) additional sales entity..which will have much staying power in the coming months, years while the other guys consolidate the market...and, eventually, force prices higher.....where Dell will become more competitive on more items...

Then Dell can crank up the site even more...

In the meantime, I dont forsee the site having more than a modest impact on sales/earnings in the next couple years...might give a ever-so-slight bump in the next couple Christmas's...would love to be wrong...

Just thought I'd butt in...maybe you've already covered these point...sorry, lazy, havent read all posts yet...

Bachman, your point is well taken. Dell's got the cash-flow to do much better at this than most others.

BTW, hello. It's been a while!

Regards,

LoD

Bachman: I do not know how successful 'sell-below-cost-to-get-market share' strategy will be,only time will tell I guess. One thing is certain though and that is, in all likelihood, a few will survive and many will perish as time goes by.
