Okay. Early this year I found out I can no longer use Extra Strength Robitussin. At the recommended adult dose (two teaspoonsful, good for 30 milligrams) I get into four, five hours of incipient dissociation. Not pleasant, and if you aren't mentally prepared, it can scare you.

Dunno if alkahall helps or blunts this.
So I have resorted to suckling on my dwindling supply of The Good Cough Syrup ( the prescription kind with codeine). I am on the tail end of a TWO MONTH coughing bug thing.
Advil Cold&Sinus should be fine if it does not mess with your sleep. In the evening, an antihistamine (like Benadryl or any number of cheap generic chlorpheniramine tabs - avoid the combo products) is often a useful adjunct. It is a little drowsifying as well.

I have a cold also. This one didn't floor me like the last five, but it climbed right into my nose. Hope you get better soon.

Budweiser is good, especially with a side of honey-glazed donuts.

Scott, baby, it's all up to your constitution. Budweiser is water to me. I usually buy my patent medicines plain, and then when I mix and match, I can put in only what I want. Plain Robitussin is dextromethorphan, Goodman & Gilman's says the average adult dose is 10 to 30 mg three to six times daily, "however, higher doses often are required." It's only a cough suppressor. Advil is ibuprofen, I was taking 800 mg three or four times a day until Celebrex came out, the side effect you have to worry about is GI bleeding, unlikely over a short period. I don't know what else is in the things you are talking about, I suspect some kind of bronchodilator or decongestant, and if you take a double dose of one of them you will be wired and find yourself unable to have restful sleep. If you post back what they are I will look them up.

Hey, DSD!
I'm sorry you're ill! SInce it is now Sunday morning, I'm too late to help you. Not that I could have, but I love hearing how everyone treats themselves for this stuff. By now, you are either better, worse, or dead.
This may be a waste of time if you're dead.
Maybe I shouldn't write to you til I get confirmation of your ongoing existence.
I have five minutes until I have to get ready for church.
Becuase I'm an asthmatic singer, I've been to a lot of throat guys, most of whom have said antihistimines are really not good as they tend to cause congestion and then infections. ANd dry throats are awful. They like you to drip and cough up stuff. Decongestants wire me BAD, like Coby. But the new Duratuss seems to work really well. I have a constant cough and when it gets bad, I use that XStrength Robitussin-it's the only OTC onee I've found that does anything. One doctor told me that most of the over-the-counter stuff is intentionally very, very weak, and it would be hard to kill yourself with it; I never even measure, I just chug from the bottles.
But usually, I use as little medicine as possible. Dan, on the other hand, uses Nyquil. Knocks himself out and then gets over it. I guess everyone is different.
I've never had an experience like LLR's!!! Wow. Cool.
Stay home, watch basketball, drink hot whiskey toddies with honey.
I'm losing the family pool. I picked all underdogs. Weber almost came through for me though!!
