Though it was a debatable issue to some the answer is really plain and simple. Those books which centered around the glory of man were not found to be inspired of God and thus were rejected, and those which centered around the glory of God were accepted.

This what the prof said about the writings you are talking about. I didn't see that they were authenticated in any way. They don't know where the writings came from. Also, I didn't see any particular mention of the "gospel of thomas" you are talking about in the first half I read. It's a interesting and looooooong article and I didn't read everything. I'll go back later.
