I will be returning my computer and have them build a new one, only this time using a stand alone motherboard.

Generally onboard graphics is a bad idea..there is a likelihood you will upgrade your video card so it is better to have it as a separate component. On board SCSI can be a good idea as it may save a PCI slot..and it can be cheaper than an add on host adapter.

I prefer to chose components that have good Internet support..it is easier to get answers. Some common Internet favorites are ABIT, Aopen and ASUS motherboards and Matrox and ATI graphics cards. If you want to overclock the Celeron 300A then the ABIT board is the way to go. For possible better quality and stability Aopen is a consideration. They all have good manuals and they are available on the web.

To get the best machine it is a good idea to spend some time identifying your needs and researching individual components. Then have your local shop put it together for you.

Welcome to the thread

Freezing is often caused by overly agressive settings of
basic timing parameters available in the CMOS chipset setup.
I suppose onboard components might contribute in some way,
but I don't know how. The case against on board components is
no upgrade path. Of course, maybe it's broken <g>. Good luck
returning it after 3 months.
