But Solaris is not OPEN. I think the comparison of Linux to Solaris fails based on that fact alone. You would never see the kind of industry wide support for Solaris like we are seeing for Linux. As for high end PC hardware not necessarily being cheap you may be right but I think that cost will continue to drop and as long as its competitive many shops will prefer it as it is perceived as more of an "open standard" than SPARC. Intel is determined more than ever to move to the high end now that its margins are being eroded at the low end by competition from AMD and NSM.
