Tench,

Re:" If you believe that, then you must also interpret the pricing discrepancy between the K6-2 and the Pentium II on the assumption that consumers would rather have a Pentium II than a K6-2."

You are right the consumer IMHO see's the Celeron as low end.
Then the k6-2's in the middle. With the PII as the most desirable.

Now the PIII's have the top spot and the K-3 will probably be on par with PII's for desirability.

Even though the Celeron 433 is a great chip and better than a PII-400 it is still not as desirable as a PII 400 or k6-2 450.

AMD to some extent has built a brand with the k6-2's.

We will have to see how the k-3 plays out when it is really available by later this month or next.

Regards,

Kash

Yes, that is my point. Most consumers do prefer the PII over K6-2, that is reflected in the pricing. Consumer MAY also prefer the K6-2 over Celeron which may be the reason behind the pricing. My post was merely saying that the price differences between K6-2 and Celeron is not necessarily due to supply problem from AMD but rather due to higher demand for AMD K6-2.
