FAA 85% remediated...The real story..

Anybody catch the testimony of DOT deputy sec,DOT IG, FAA's Jane Garvey and GAO's Joel Willemson yesterday in front of Stephen Horn's and Connie Morella's House committee?

Here's a brief reprise. Maybe CSPAN will rebroadcast. The transcript should be available in the future at cspan.org.

According to Jane Garvey, the FAA is 85% remediated and to their credit well along in comparison to last year at this time. The dirt is in the details. The 85% remediated relates to the FAA laboratory testing and validation and not to the remediation and implementation in the field. According to the GAo this means over 3300 independent systems need to be remediated, validated, implemented and all of their data exchanges tested before 12/31/99.

This was a HUGE surprise for me. Joel Willemson is skeptical(the only truly independent analyst testifying) this can be accomplished in the time remaining. He was rather complimentary of the FAA contingency planning and Ms. Garvey spoke of spacing planes further apart, poor airport preparations, etc. A must see for everyone. I challenge those cheery folks on this thread to watch the broadcast or read the transcript and reassure me that everything is OK. Thanks....Stephen
