When P. Allen can buy controlling interest in GNET for millions and ATHM has to pay billions for XCIT plus the fact that XCIT will have flat rev. next qr. one has to wonder about the wisdom of the merger.

@Home Network and .comfax Team to Deliver Internet Faxing Services To @Home Subscribers

March 16, 1999 04:30 PM
REDWOOD CITY, Calif., and NEW YORK, March 16 /PRNewswire/ -- @Home Network ATHM , the leading provider of broadband Internet services via the cable infrastructure, and .comfax ("dot-com-fax"), Inc., a recognized leader in Internet fax services, today announced an agreement to provide faxing services to @Home subscribers. For the first time in the cable Internet industry, consumers are able to fax online through @Home's cable Internet service. Beginning today, subscribers can download the .comfax software from @Home's "Tool and Toys" section and sign up for a free trial subscription.
"By providing faxing capabilities through @Home, we are leveraging the power and open nature of the Web to give our subscribers the freedom to choose how they want to send and receive information," said Charles Moldow, vice president, @Media sales & marketing for @Home Network. "Our relationship with .comfax furthers our subscribers' ability to effectively communicate while offering them a less expensive alternative to traditional faxing methods."

As the Internet fax provider to @Home subscribers, .comfax enables @Home users to communicate from their desktops and from any Windows application. Connecting through @Home, users can fax any document or image on their PC to their friends and family members. To confirm delivery of the fax, an e-mail message is sent to the user. In addition, subscribers can receive a dedicated fax telephone number which forwards received faxes to the subscriber's e-mail or can be retrieved off the .comfax Web site.

By sending and receiving faxes over .comfax's global network of Internet fax servers, @Home subscribers will substantially reduce fax charges. The service eliminates the need for additional hardware, special wiring or other services such as fax servers, dedicated phone lines, and fax service bureaus.

Users are able to send direct and secure faxes to recipients over the Internet at a cost of 10 cents per minute anywhere in the United States. Rates are nominally more to other countries. In addition, users can take advantage of .comfax's advanced fax broadcast, fax tracking, and fax mailbox capabilities.

"Leveraging their high-speed Internet connections, @Home subscribers now have a virtual fax machine to send and receive faxes with the click of a mouse," said Ben Feder, chairman and CEO of .comfax.
