A little more on the NEC product . . .

It uses a 1.5mm by 14 mm silicon thermal sensing CMOS chip from Thomson CFS Semiconductor (a Veridicom competitor), and requires a finger swipe across its surface. This produces an 8 byte, 500 dpi image. With so little information processed, it may be a low end product . . . but that may be all that is needed here.

NEC hasn't been promising anything available before mid-1999, and no information on pricing.

David,

I'm looking at the news a little differently, I'm seeing two storefronts for IDX in the same mall. Also NEC now has their TouchPass system for network access control system. I'm not sure if the scanner shown is F-3 or not,(probably not) sort of looks like Fujitsu's scanner. But, from the press release "and all products are available on the GSA Advantage online purchasing Web Site fss.gsa.gov . Now look at these links, notice anything special about the scanner?
