I have a Dell Inspiron 7000 and it will *not* play Universal's DVD
Title "Sneakers." It gets part way into the video (a few
seconds into the Universal intro) and then dies.

I have returned the DVD and received a new one and the same thing
happens.

Does anyone have a solution? I really like the movie.

My experience says no DVD player is completely innocent. Some are better than others though.
