HGRM to Enter $140 Million Holographic Packaging Market

BusinessWire, Wednesday, March 17, 1999 at 12:27

MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 17, 1999--Holographic Dimensions Inc. (OTC BB:HGRM) Wednesday announced that it has completed the Research, Development and Prototyping of its Direct Digital Holographic Printer (DDHP) and is now constructing the first commercial device incorporating the technology to service the Holographic Packaging Market.

Digital hologram technology, also called Dot Matrix holography, has been particularly successful in the packaging market, with Coors (NYSE:RKY), Pepsi (NYSE:PEP) and Colgate Palmolive (NYSE:CL) incorporating dot matrix hologram technology in the packaging design of a variety of consumer products.

According to the hologram industry newsletter, Holography News, "although holographic packaging accounted for 14 percent, or $84,000,000, of the $600,000,000 worldwide holography market in 1995 it accounted for 45 percent of the actual quantity of holographic materials produced in 1995 making it the largest market segment of the industry." As Holography News projects industry sales to exceed $1 billion in 1999, the sales for the packaging market should exceed $140 million in sales in 1999.

Dot Matrix holography involves the holographic rendering of a computer graphic image pixel by pixel. The company began to actively R&D dot matrix holography and, in conjunction with Advanced Digital Holographics, was the first to develop Dot Matrix holography in the 1980s.

According to Kevin G. Brown, president and chief executive officer, "The construction of this new device significantly expands the market for our products as we have had only limited exposure to the packaging market in the past. Because our DDHP technology provides for increases in speed, resolution, brightness, image quality, and production economies, it is clearly the technology of choice when compared to others in the market."

According to Vitali Prisacar, optical engineer and inventor of the technology, "this is the first of many commercial applications of DDHP technology. We were able to complete the R&D for this project on an accelerated basis because of the high level of sophistication of the HGRM research laboratory facilities. I look forward to working with HGRM to develop medical, security, compact disk manufacturing, and other exciting applications for this technology and others."

Holographic Dimensions is a vertically integrated manufacturer of holographic imagery. The company's products are incorporated into a variety of security products including, but not limited to, credit cards, negotiable documents, event tickets, transit passes, and consumer products for marketing. The company's customers include Merck (NYSE:MRK), Lilly, NASA, The Coca-Cola Company (NYSE:KO), Hoescht, and Ameritech (NYSE:AIT), amongst many others.

To facilitate investor relations, compliance with NASD reporting requirements, and to position the company for access to capital markets, the company is in the process of auditing its financial statements though the period ending Dec. 31, 1998. The audit should be complete in the next two weeks and the company intends to complete the filing of all the necessary SEC forms to make it a fully reporting public company.
