Also explains the reason why Japan is counter-cyclical to the US. They experienced the extent of their baby boom era in the 1980's according to the book and have since entered an era where many of the people who had been rather productive in the past are now at or near retirement. Not sure how the return from war factors into the equation. However, the current demographics of the United States are quite relative to that of the Roaring 20's... and well, you know what happened after that was over. Dent is calling for what he refers to as 'the mother of all depressions' after the boomers spending drops off dramatically near 2010. The only way to keep this from happening is for the functions of technology to make up for the difference in the inevitable decrease in human productivity.

Anyway... just my interpretations of the book.
