Computer Aided Software Engineering (CASE).

CASE tools generally aid in the DESIGN of software. Examples are data modeling and object modeling tools that allow you to draw diagrams, just like Visio. The difference being these tools will generally include capabilities for automatically generating code from your diagram. The really good tools also allow you to generate diagrams from existing code (forward/reverse engineering).

While there are CASE tools for many different tasks, the binding theme is great simplification/shortening of the design/development process. The relevant point here is this: in order to develop a CASE tool to simplify a process, you must know the process itself inside and out.

Part of the reason I feel comfortable with Perceptronics' claims is because I believe they are seasoned vets in the development process. For myself, the fact they've developed CASE tools is a flag indicating their experience. Being experts in the process means you're much more likely to build solid product on time and on budget. My belief of their experience makes me feel much more comfortable about their ability to deal with competition now and down the road. It minimizes the chance of success to purely a marketing issue (is it a product companies need).
