Yes, that's a big part of it, but, furthermore, it is very tiresome to always have to carry the conversational/social weight in a relationship. Men who tell themselves that they are "shy" are frequently just selfish and self-centered. Uninterested in anyone else. Unwilling to Make An Effort. Crashing bores. Not you, of course, you are quite charming, not in the house sense.

The main problem extremely shy guys have with women is, I think, that if a man isn't self confident, the woman has to fear that he knows something she doesn't about himself. As in Groucho's (or somebody's) remark, "You don't have an inferiority complex, you're just inferior." And of course her genes are whispering, "Mate with a guy who can bring home plenty of bear grease and maintain his status and his childrens' in the cave pecking order!" It's possible to be a man of few words and still convey power, of course. Extroversion in itself isn't the appeal. Some inner authority seems to be.

LRR, my little comment wasn't implying that it was a bad thing!

Shyness,
That was always my problem with girls. I never could make small talk.
I knew nothing about sports, war, men's underwear, dirty fighting, or the other things the girls I knew liked to talk about.
