Planning seems to be the operative word:

Conexant Systems Says It Is Planning Multiple-Function Cable-Modem Chip

This just means they are really behind and trying the old FUD (Fear Uncertainty and Doubt) act with the investment and customer communities. They probably will have a chip out sometime - but, doesn't revenue count for something too?

Nice day for BRCM - any ideas what was going on? Just anticipation by shorts for options expiration or something deeper?

Hey where is Patsy anyway, that irrepressible "hedge fund" manager? Sold at 55, eh?

I quote: "Where Conexant relies on software to adapt to changing standards, Broadcom believes it has an inside track in setting them. Consequently, it can build features into circuitry to produce less-expensive chips."

Broadcom is the leader and being #2 in technology is only ok in the intermediate term. Long-term, BRCM and the team they have in place will just outwork CNXT.

BRCM has been selling cable modem chipsets in volume to GI and SFA while CNXT is designing them.
