As I understand that, it is purely a paperwork thing. If you own the shares by the record date, you will receive the split shares immediately on the date the stock trades at the new split adjusted value. If you buy them after the date of record it's not really problematical; you get the shares, of course. You just might have some difficulty buying and selling during that period of time, very little difficulty but harder to track. This is obviously more a problem for traders than people who are going to hold the shares for awhile. I recently had to have someone explain this to me. Later. Sueponine.

Sueponine's explanation was very interesting. When I read about split on March 18, I also wondered about payment on April 11th. I assumed incorrectly that people who held their own shares would receive their certificates on April 11. It is all rather complicated isn't it. At least I found the notice to Stockholders, dated Feb. 11. It was the notice about split. I thought you might have had a question about that. And I was amazed I hadn't tossed it. By the year, 2030, I hope that I've made enough money so that I can hire a housekeeper and/or part-time secretary to clean the house and keep track of the many reports and proxies that litter the living room and other parts of the house.
