You will notice that I didn't factor in the price of the Flash card reader either. (a cost that you seem to forget about) >>

The mechanism to read a flash card adds about $2.50 in factory cost to a unit. It consists of a connector, a cheap microprocessor, and some glue logic. Reliability of the interface is well over 10 million hours MTBF.
