IBD runs a relative price performance report each day on 197 industry groups "Investors Business Daily Industry Prices. Usually on second from last pace of first section. The full name of the group is called Medical-Biomed/Genetics and is composed of 178 companies. This report is of use in following rotation of groups. I do not believe it is cap weighted. There is nothing provably illegal about establishing a position for investment purposes only. Schering Plough (not Schering AG) has reportable positions in CORVAS and Miravant. Should at some later date these positions help in the discussions that would not disprove the intentions on the filing. Gee robber Barrons of the 80's. After you mentioned Boesky I realized that was just yesterday. Once you have a position over 5% and you file it would be illegal to declare that you have no purpose other than for investment if you really intended an acquisition. What law prevents taking a below reporting position in companies you might be interested in acquiring? I don't know of any company doing a takeover that does not buy the below reporting level first. Check out DuPonts 20% position in Pioneer Hybrid. Bet you find that for years it said "for investment purposes only".
