Re: suspect Thanks for a great educational session. I went out and bought a good dictionary and looked up the word suspect, and the only definition I could find was O.J. Now I understand your postings. As long as you use the word suspect, you can say anything you want, without being able to back up your claims. The rest of us who don't suspect have to back up our claims. The 800 MHz Intel system is great, isn't it? Especially with the test track. Have you ordered your 800 lb gorilla on a test track yet? Be careful the gorilla is temperamental; make sure you keep it in a refrigerator! I suspect AMD will sell a K7 at 2000 GHx next week. I suspect K8 will be sampled yesterday. Wow! Elmer and Richard, Re: Intel Demo vs AMD demo I think both you and Richard are both right. 1. AMD demo. They showed it and have repeatedly claimed they are getting ready to ship. It was also stated at one of the sights that the K7 was dramatically faster than the PIII-500 and K-!!!-450 machines. Now we all know that the chip is a great design and could kick some butt. IF AMD can figure out how to yield it - so whats new. 2. Intel Demo. I agree with you that it probably was not water-cooled. And it was probably a first article from the 0.18 shrink as you suspect. In fact Intel VP at cebit stated that a 600Mhz and 667Mhz PIII will ship in 2nd Half of year. In Intel speak that probably means that by mid year they will be cranking large volumes for late Fall introduction by several players. So it would be shocking if they didn't have 0.18 micron first samples of the PIII's by now. Originally Intel had stated that mobile chips would be first to use the 0.18 process. I suspect <VBG> that the prospect of the K7 has altered that slightly and they will defend the server market with rapid clock speed enhancements as well as the Rambus RDRAM ramp up.
