Dow is over 10K and I don't hear of brokers computers crashing.

Remember all the Dow 10,000 hype back in the spring?

Didn't paul or someone have a target dollar amount at the six billion level?
For you fence sitters out there, this trend chart is worth integrating
with the recent discussions: 1) The work was done long ago, Y2K work is
winding down, 2) COBOL? just install a SAP CD and you're good to go, 3)
Programmer rates haven't gone up. 4) It's all over except for popping the
champagne. For large entities around DeeCee, the real work is just starting. Two
firms in Arlington Va declared "Deathmarch" in February. The DeeCee
government woke from its slumber this year and contracted with IBM for
300 Y2K programmers (actually an army of people to hand in timesheets and
a few *real* programmers, if they follow the model of large IT consulting
projects.)
At last night's WDC Y2K, I worked the crowd and got the real scoop. Y2K
is not going well. What is going well is that the hand-wavers are
getting better at spinning their tales of Success! and remediation.
You know the sound that a small dog makes when you jog around the corner
and surprise it? Yiiiii-yip-yip-YIP! It's scared, terrified, and it
tries to bark big.
"By thunder, we *will* be done, we have the best minds working on it,
leave your money in the banks." to which Jim Lord said, yes, leave your
money in banks, withdraw the cash you want, rent a safety deposit box and
keep your money in your box.
We're entering the "end game" of Y2K, less than 9 and a half months.
Times up, Rules changed.
At this stage you should have your bug-out bag (check the old WRPs for
the Mormon bug-out bag, for a starter, add or delete items to suit your
particular circumstances.), your home should be Y2K safe (that's 3 months
of consumables that you can stretch to 6 months comfortably, two weeks
cash or cash equivs., meds for 2 months. Light, heat, water, waste
disposal, communications.)
As this year unfolds, expecially over the summer, consider adding to the
3-6 months.
