( BW)(BALTIMORE)(ZGO.) Baltimore UniCERT gains ITSEC E3 Provisional Listing

CeBIT 99

HANNOVER, Germany--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 19, 1999--Baltimore, the operating name of Zergo Holdings plc (London:ZGO), a global leader in e-commerce and enterprise Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) solutions, today announced that its UniCERT certificate authority (CA) product has been accepted for evaluation at the ITSEC E3 level (Information Technology Security Evaluation Criteria).
ITSEC is a recognised global standard for the measurement of security products and the E3 evaluation represents the highest level of commercial security sought today.
Baltimore is one of the first suppliers in the world to have PKI products provisionally listed and accepted for certification at the E3 level. E3 accreditation will mean that UniCERT conforms to high security standards which are mandated by Government organisations worldwide.
"Certain organisations, including Governments, now mandate that security products conform to the ITSEC E3 accreditation level. Therefore, for vendors to service these large-scale PKI opportunities they need to offer compliant products," said Andrew Smith, Security Analyst at Frost and Sullivan.
Baltimore's award-winning UniCERT has been accepted for E3-level accreditation under the AISEP (Australasian Information Security Evaluation) Program. Its modular, policy-driven design allows for distributed operation for a wide variety of systems, including secure electronic transactions, secure email, secure web and virtual private networks.
"ITSEC E3 is becoming increasingly important as PKI systems are deployed in Governments and Commercial CA environments. ITSEC approval for UniCERT will confirm Baltimore's commitment to providing advanced security technology that meets the requirements of current and future customers," said John O'Sullivan, Vice President, Engineering, at Baltimore.

About E3

The Information Technology Security Evaluation Criteria (ITSEC) is a measurement of how well a security product meets its security claims. The levels of Certification range from E1 to E6 (the highest). The Australasian Information Security Evaluation Program (AISEP), run by the Australian Defence Signals Directorate (DSD) and New Zealand's Government Communications Security Bureau (GCSB), provides trusted third-party evaluation through which products achieve ITSEC certification. In reality, achievement of ITSEC E3 represents the highest desirable level of commercial security sought today.

Frank: The IBM article was a Dandy. A ring of truth to it-- slanted to the Blue picture of the world. Vert thought provoking

IMO- there will be a huge market for a simple and reliable device that does 4 basic things:

1- telephone- via the internet or wireless normal digital.
2- e-mail
3- permits financial transactions-- ie ordering products or services
buy/sell stocks etc
4- allows storage and retriveable capability for basic data-- telephone #'s , addresses etc.

The toughest part is the decision to incorporate 1 with 2-4.
