How 'bout a symbol screw-up?

Placed an order to sell a stock at a limit price.

The stock changes ticker symbols as it goes from one exchange to another.

Stock trades at my limit price +.50

No execution.

I've sent in my complaint to them, I expect the usual "sorry but we didn't know the symbol changed..."

Next stop, SEC complaints (which I've done before and had E*Trade call me to say how sorry they were about their last screw-up).

I'll save the rest of my venom for after I've heard back from them.

And yes, if they do resolve it to my satisfaction I'll report that here. (anyone willing to place odds on that...?)

Regarding the "retirement" of the Classic Site:

On Thursday, I spoke with an ETrade Supervisor who assured me he was in the know on the Classic Site Retirement question. We discussed that fact that I believed ETrade needed to give customers adequate notice before retiring the site so we could experiment with the new site and become used rather than simply being thrown into a new system without the opportunity to learn it first.

He assured me that they were talking about giving a minimum of three days of notice - although I lobbied for considerably more notice.

Little did I know the decision to close the site this weekend was apparently ALREADY made and that our three day notice would be non-market over the weekend time. Once again, Etrade, thank you for caring about your customers --- we truly appreciate it!

From the classic site regarding the closure - and, not we must manually enter our existing portfolios, etc. --- they are not carried over from the classic site.

Where are my portfolios and watch lists?
Your portfolios and watch lists must be reentered on the new site. We suggest that you first print them out from the Classic site. Then go to the Portfolio & Markets tab on the new site and click Portfolio Manager to begin entering your information.
Note: You'll be able to log on to the Classic Web site after market hours through Friday, March 26, 1999, to retrieve portfolio and watch list data.

How do I place a trade?
It's easy. After you log on, select the Trading tab and click the appropriate Enter Order button in the left navigation bar. You can review your Open Orders there as well. Your trading password is the same as before.

Where can I find my account positions and balances?
Click the My Accounts tab to get all of your account activity, including positions, balances, tax records, and more.

How do I get quotes?
First, go to the Stocks & Options tab and sign up for free real-time quotes. Then get summary, detailed, or real-time quotes by entering symbols in the box provided. To get multiple quotes, enter a series of symbols separated by commas or spaces. All other price quotes on the site are delayed unless otherwise noted.

How do I get my trade reports and other messages?
They'll be sent to your Alerts inbox under the Portfolio & Markets, Trading, and My Accounts tabs. You can also sign up to get instant stock price, volume, and P/E alerts delivered automatically.

Are there any different browser requirements?
For increased Web security, we recommend using version 4.0 or higher of Netscape Navigator, or Microsoft Internet Explorer. You can download the latest versions here for free.
