Neocon, I have been more than respectful. When I haven't, it is because you have twisted my words, or inadequately read (or read too much into) my words.
I cannot, and will not, tolerate somebody who twists something I say into anything other than it is. Yet you've done this time and again. Perhaps it's your way of getting a rise. If so, you've been successful occasionally.
Other than that, I understand perfectly the stance from which you are making your points. My stepfather and my favorite uncle argue the same points with me incessantly. I am astounded, constantly, that they are distrustful of the gov't and its notions, yet want the gov't to, somehow, help people be more "moral". If the gov't isn't good at the few things its SUPPOSED to be good at, why would anyone assume that it'd be good at supporting "moral" behavior. After all, gov't is the LEAST moral of all human institutions, in most respects. It doesn't promote a meritocratic bureaucracy, it enables corruption and racketeering, it invades people's private lives, and it deprives people of the right to spend their hard earned money as they see fit.
Yet, somehow, there are those out there who think it can actually be engaged to promote morality.
