Sorry Jach, this is not what happened. In 97 ASND crashed. A good part of the ASND problems were associated with delays in product delivery and initial product quality problems. And, they fixed their problems and Mike Hendren went out and sold lots of stuff. The stock recovered and ASND sold itself from a position of strength - at the right time. FORE also crashed in 97, and never recovered. They announced product after product which never came to market. Remember the MSC700 from Cadia, or products from the Scalable acquisition? The Berkeley switches are great hardware with a fabulous NT based spin, but few serious application agents have been deployed to enable the glorious "application awareness". Enhancements to the 3810 have been promised for years and still have not been delivered (I know - I bought a lot of it). The only real new product FORE has coughed up in years is the ASX-4000, a beautiful switch, but is applicable for only a few customers (and is likely to be eclipsed in the telco area by Cienna/Lightera and several others next year). Bottom line - no new *mainstream* products released from FORE in many, many years. Does sentiment differ inside the company from those of us who are investors? It is a credit to FORE's original engineers that the ASX-1000 has had such longevity. It is a credit to its sales force that it has kept the boat afloat so long. But the company's performance is atrocious due to the incompetence of management. There is still substantial underlying value in the company, and the board is no longer a passive entity. They will force a change one way or another, shortly. There is no other choice for them. Ibor
