FORE was stalled by the birth of GBit, that was the key difference betwen asnd and FORE. Now with Gbit/ATM aware ESX2400/4800, FORE is in a very good position. It will capture the majority of Enterprise ATM LAN mkt share, this is still significant although it is not growing much. Adding to that will be the Enterprise Gbit mkt segment where the companies need to have better control of their network. The only game in town is ATM for WAN if one wants QoS now, period, and who else better to go to than FORE who has the best intelligent interconnectivity between its LAN switches and WAN switches. Why would MSFT deploy FORE swictches in their campus and not Gbit. Plain and simple, Gbit can not support QoS as well as no control over WAN. How can a remote brach development site communicate effectively with specific QoS support just using Gbit, NO WAY. In the near future, there are going to be many enterprises like MSFT that want to have greater control of their network, why? in the Internet age this is a must to stay ahead of the competition or to jsut keep abreast with the competitors. FORE will capture a large share of that segment.
