Gary Re <<Is there any information about this ? These GROSS margin stuff is very tricky, one can play with the number in whatever way he wants.>>

I am not an accountant but here is quicky,

Gross is (revenues from sales of CPU)-(cost of manufacturing the CPU)

Cost includes labor and parts (including the depreciation cost of the equipment, which is big). As I said, AMD sells the K6's for more than what it costs them to make it.

Yes there are plenty and detailed information about the gross margin in the earning statement.

biz.yahoo.com

For example:

For year ended 1998

Net sales $2,356,375

Cost of sales $1,578,438

Gross margin of 33%.

Re: "Is there anyone who has tracked this company long enough to say
whether financially AMD is better now than it was 5 years ago ?"

Yes, the market has tracked AMD's finances and has determined that it is worth less than half what it was worth 15 years ago.
