Intel has said it expects to offer PIII chips by the end of the year with speeds as fast as 1 gigahertz

I don't believe that Intel has ever made any such claims. Apparently their phoney-baloney speed demos have begun to confuse the press.

The guy obviously didn't do his homework. Must have gone to the Tom Kurlak school of CPU chip analysis and trends.
